Frocester Cricket Club……more than just cricket

You can’t keep a good man down!

QUIZ NIGHT

That’s right ‘Pistol’ Pete Davis has created a brand new quiz for this coming Friday 23rd October.  If you can start arriving from 6.30pm for a prompt start at 7.00 please, bearing in mind last orders are at 9.30.

Teams of no more than 6 for obvious reasons.

Barbados 2021

What better way to recuperate from the nightmare we are currently experiencing.  Fun in the sun for two weeks next February with a visit to The Caribbean.

There are currently some 30 people already signed up to travel so far but it still remains open for anyone to join in, subject to availability with Virgin or TUI.  Note you do not have to be a member of FCC as the tour is open to all.

A few more players please would be great so we can actually play a few games.  We have 3 fixtures all lined up for us if we want them.

We will be there for Valentines Day and something special is being lined up for that sunday too.

Flying with Virgin out of Gatwick on Friday 12th February.  A coach will be arranged to transport you to and from Gatwick.  Please be aware the first week is also school half term.  Virgin can also offer a 10 day trip if that is of any interest.  There may still be an option to fly out on Thursday 11th, out of Birmingham with TUI, again subject to availability.

For further information please contact Tony Bray.

Ladies Night

The evening was a great success as the boys, Doorsy and Tinky ably led by master chef Muscles, lovingly prepared an excellent 3 course meal for the ladies to enjoy.  The ladies were waited on in a truly professional manner by the gentlemen (?) of the club.  The prosecco and wine flowed freely and a fantastic time was enjoyed by all.  The evening would not be complete without a ‘Pistol’ quiz to finish and the usual banter ensued plus unprompted singing of the answers to the music round by the newly formed, on the night, Frocester ladies choir.

Club Hire

Please click here to go to the event/calendar page where further information about hiring this facility is available.  Please note from April through to mid September there is limited availability due to the club’s primary function, that of cricket.

Frocester Beer Festival – Cheque presentations

Saturday evening 7th December witnessed the presentation of cheques to three very worthy local charities.  All of whom do such fantastic work and we are very proud to be associated with them.

Meningitis Now, Inclusion Gloucestershire and The Dursley Lions benefitted from this year’s highly successful Frocester Beer Festival.

The evening kicked off with an introduction by beer Festival chairman Paul Mukasa, who in turn thanked everyone who contributed to this years success.

A table top quiz began, courtesy of Pete Davis, which involved everyone and was a brilliant way of people feeling relaxed and talking to each other, even if they have never met before!

This was followed by the presentation of the cheques with each beneficiary saying a few words about the amazing work each of them do day in day out.

A thank you from club chairman John Evans was then followed by hot food, served on what was a night of celebration of the work that’s going on everyday by some amazing people.

IT’S YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD

Frocester Cricket Club received an outstanding mark of 89% winning the Heart of England in Bloom for 2019.

A simply fantastic effort and a huge thank you to all the volunteers involved.  Special thanks to Andrew Marson for all his efforts.

The Royal Horticultural Society’s It’s Your Neighbourhood campaign is part of the wider Britain in Bloom initiative, providing an opportunity for smaller community groups to get involved.

RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood is a unique scheme for volunteered led community gardening projects/groups who are focused on improving their local environment through community gardening.  They can be working in their local street, estate where they live, a back alley they share with their neighbours, or the local community centre’s outdoor space. Almost any outdoor site being looked after by the local community qualifies for this scheme.  RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood is an inclusive, non-competitive scheme, a group can be made up of any number of community volunteers.

Phil & Mary Herbert, along with Marjorie Hawkins accepting the award.

The marking sheet was split into 3 sections as follows:

Section A: Community Participation – 40 out of 40 marks

Section B: Environmental Responsibility – 25 out of 30 marks

Section C: Gardening Achievement – 24 out of 30 marks

In the words of introduction on the result sheet it read; The clubhouse (one of the largest buildings in the village) and grounds set in wonderful surroundings. Is this a cricket club or a community hub?

There already plans afoot to make it even better in 2020, watch this space. Or better still come to Frocester Cricket Club and see for yourself.
