Four members of the Club recently enjoyed a memorable sporting weekend in Scotland, taking in top-class rugby and a remarkable football result all with a unique local connection.
The trip began with a visit to watch Gloucester Rugby take on Edinburgh Rugby. It was a competitive and entertaining match, although the travelling supporters were slightly disappointed as Gloucester narrowly lost out on the night.
The following day the group travelled to Ochilview Park to watch Stenhousemuir F.C. face East Fife F.C. in Scottish League One. The intrepid visitors were treated to a superb performance of liquid football as Stenhousemuir ran out emphatic 5–0 winners, making it an unforgettable afternoon of football followed by outstanding hospitality. Celebrating with Pornstar Martini’s was on on the 2026 bingo card!
The trip held extra significance due to the connection between Frocester and Stenhousemuir through long-time supporter Bob Hill. Bob was a keen supporter of Frocester Cricket Club, is also held a role as director of Stenhousemuir.
Several years ago Bob’s Stroud-based business T. Butt & Son sponsored Stenhousemuir an unusual partnership that attracted national attention with the story making the national press, including coverage in The Sun.
For the four travelling Frocester members, the weekend combined great sport, good company and a reminder of the unique links that grassroots clubs can build across the UK.
And while the rugby result didn’t quite go Gloucester’s way, Stenhousemuir’s five-goal victory ensured the trip north ended on a high note.
Our thanks go to everyone involved in the trip. Especially all the guys in the Bob Hill Wee Bar. The link between our two clubs grew stronger that weekend and some exciting plans were drawn up after many pints of Tennants and, of course, the half time bovril!
Until next time, Up the Warriors!
